AUP Responds to COVID-19
AUP is working vigilantly to respond to COVID-19 and prepare for the Fall 2020 Academic Semester. AUP’s cessation of in-person activities at the start of the pandemic created new opportunities for members, even in the face of adversity. Chief among these is the development of a Leadership Seminar, based in academic readings and Coast Guard experience to prepare junior leaders for opportunities in AUP and beyond. This seminar is the basis of a new track of Leadership Development courses to be incorporated into the forthcoming updated Program of Study.
Additionally, AUP is developing contingencies in accordance with national Coast Guard Auxiliary policy regarding activities during this time. With some schools returning to in-person activities this fall, AUP is identifying best practices to allow all AUP students to continue moving towards graduation on time. Each unit is developing a risk assessment and options for virtual classrooms, which will be assessed by active duty Coast Guard safety personnel. AUP will also emphasize virtual operational training opportunities this semester, offering Incident Command System practice for its students.
